He is no stranger to breaking goalscoring records. But over the weekend, Lionel Andrés “Leo” Messi went ahead and broke Müller’s single year goal record of 85 goals scored in a calender year.
That record had not been broken since 1972. Until now. The Argentine even surpassed the record with 2 goals scored in La Liga for Barcelona against Real Betis to set a new record of 86 goals.
I have been witness to two legendary Argentines gracing the world of football/soccer with their amazing talents.
First was Diego Maradona who – despite his later fall from grace – was not only a club sensation but also a winner of the World Cub with country.
While Messi has yet to take his national side to much-deserved glory, he is still young and it can be argued that his best years are still ahead of him.
And if he continues to form, the world is in for a treat. I personally can’t wait to see what else he will bring to the game.
