Liverpool scored 4 goals against Tottenham Hotspur and maintained a clean sheet to claim all three points at home at Anfield. Best of all, they continued to display their flowing football which is so pleasing to the eye.
With six matches to go in the 2013-2014 English Premier League Season, Liverpool have gone back to the top with 71 points. 2 points clear of Chelsea and 4 clear of Manchester City. The latter do have two games in hand.
But one of them is against Liverpool who now have the outcome firmly in their hands.
The math is simple, they have to win their remaining games including that against Man City and as well as another tough match against currently-second Chelsea.
Liverpool do have momentum and this has been a record-breaking season for them in terms of points and goals scored.
Their “SAS” strike partnership of Suarez (29 goals) and Sturridge (20 goals) is leading the league scoring table.
Liverpool had a nervy ending to their last outing when Sunderland tested them with a goal back after being 2-0 down. But it was also a mark of their progress that they held on to a 2-1 victory. But it was a comfortable, confident display against Spurs and they could easily have scored more.
All they need now is to keep their nerve and focus. And the title will be theirs. Could this be the season they finally end their drought of premier league trophies?
I certainly hope so.
