St Patrick’s Day

You might see lots of people wearing green on March 17 or on days shortly before or after that. And that is because March 17 is celebrated as St. Patrick’s Day – in honor of the patron saint of Ireland. The day is marked as a public holiday in places such as the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

According to wikipedia, St. Patrick’s Day, although not a legal holiday anywhere in the United States, is nonetheless widely recognized and celebrated throughout the country.

It is primarily observed as a celebration of Irish and Irish American culture; celebrations include prominent displays of the color green, feasting, copious consumption of alcohol, religious observances, and numerous parades. The holiday has been celebrated on the North American continent since the late eighteenth century.

Whether you are going to watch the events on TV, or you intend to take part of a St. Patrick’s parade near you, happy St. Patrick’s Day.
